Fall 2022 Weather Report by Michael Detwiler: What to Expect

The typical October is dry with only about 6 days of rain on average out of the 31. Daytime temperatures are mainly in the 70s with lows ranging from the 40s to the 50s. We definitely see warmer days near the beginning of the month with highs even reaching into the 80s. By the end of October the average high has dropped to the 60s with lows in the 30s.

While rare, snow has fallen from the sky at the end of October. One such event began as heavy rains and happened in nearby Cookeville. By November 2nd,  Cookeville was covered with 15.2 inches of snow! This occurred way back in 1966. It remains the greatest 24 hour snow event in the history of the Hub City where reliable weather observations go back to 1896. October offers some very unique weather here in middle Tennessee.

2022 Leaf Report: Best Time to See the Fall Leaves

A wet second half of July is promising to bring us some incredible colors for Autumn 2022. We’re expecting the leaves to turn to gorgeous fall color in the Center Hill Lake region around mid-late October, and continue until about mid-November. If you were to pin me down on a time to travel and see the most brilliant of colors, I’d pick the last weekend of October and the first weekend of November. Fall foliage is most vibrant when temperatures are in the 70s during the day and drop into the 40s at night. As summer temperatures fade and temperatures get cooler, the leaves turn brighter reds, oranges, and yellows!

Enjoy your visit to the beautiful Upper Cumberland region.
